Announcements with a Special Thank you to our Members and Supporters
As we approach the Fall and Winter Holidays, we want to begin this message with a heartfelt thank you for the support you have given AAHA (Afro American Historical Association) in 2022, and to share with you some of our activities and accomplishments.
We are receiving visitors regularly to the Museum both on site and virtually. Our website, www.aahafauquier.org, has several data sets available, a new Map Center, and the Story Map. This past year we continued our bi-weekly Tuesday Zoom presentations. These presentations are available for viewing on YouTube. We continue the special project, Know Their Names, where we are giving identity to many African Americans enslaved in Fauquier, 1759-1865. To date we have over 50,000 entries taken from County Records, Journals and Diaries, Family Bibles, Census Records. We are excited that initial stages of The Morgantown School Project: A Moment in Time not to be Forgotten is made possible through funding from the PATH Foundation, Virginia Outdoors Foundation, and the Catesby Foundation. The grants have allowed us to begin working with consultants, the County, and former students to make the safety of the site and grounds a reality in the coming years.
Lastly, we are pleased to announce that we have been given the opportunity for additional office space in our current location. To limit the inconvenience to our members, educators, students and supporters, our move will coincide closely with the holidays and scheduled Fauquier school closings.
